Here the products I received in my Play! By Sephora subscription box for July and August. I have to say I loved both boxes.
A soothing seawater, caffeine-infused gel stick to de-puff eyes and energize the look of skin. Milk Makeup is new to me I have never tried any of their products; the cooling water stick was very cool on the skin and really hydrated my under eyes and the caffeine did help to “de-puff” my eyes. A little goes a long way I would consider purchasing this product in the full size.
IT Cosmetics is also a brand that is new to me; this mascara is a cult favorite! I have not tried this mascara yet (I have so many travel sized mascaras that I am trying to work through)
I have received the Briogeo leave in spray in other subscription boxes and I really like it; I don’t use it as a leave in conditioner its way too light for my hair; but I love it as a refresher to re-moisturize my hair during the week. I would consider purchasing a full size.
Boscia products are great; the brand is clean with no funky ingredients and are pretty gentle. The mask did reduce the appearance of my pores but also left my skin soft, didn’t make my skin feel tight like a lot of clay or charcoal mask tend to. I would purchase a full size; the travel size will last quite awhile since you only need a thin layer.
Lipstick and foundation are my favorite makeup items, I love matte lipstick especially; matte lipstick and liquid lipstick are low maintenance and they don’t move. There aren’t many liquid lipstick formulas that don’t dry my lips out completely which can really age you. BareMinerals is another line I have never tried, the liquid lipstick is very comfortable to wear not drying at all, the color last for several hours and it fades nicely without being streaky. The color is a mauve nude that is women of color friendly that can be worn with our without a lipliner. I would purchase a full size and would like to explore other colors in this line.
The Play! Box includes a fragrance sample every month and this is one of my favorites. Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine is a very citrusy, slightly sweet soft fragrance that is perfect for summer. I have purchased the roller ball sampler from Atelier Cologne and loved all of them. I haven’t purchased a full size yet but will continue to purchase the roller ball.
The only products I have tried from the Kat Von D line are the liquid lipsticks which are one of my favorite liquid lipstick formulas. The face products, concealers and foundations are super full coverage and very matte. I am not into full-coverage ultra matte face products because those products tend to settle into fine lines and make me look older. Unfortunately the concealer is too dark (#33 warm), the under tones are perfect just a little too dark for me. Kat Von D has a great color range to suit women off deeper skin tones (love it). I am going to try the concealer to see if I can make it work (update in a future post).
The Clarins Body Fit Anti-Anti-Cellulite claims to lift and firm skin on the legs and hips for a tighter and smoother silhouette ( I may have to bathe in this lol). When I see such claims as lift and firm I normally am not at all interested but since it was in my box I will give it a whirl and report the results (for $70 there should be some lifting and firming).
Hourglass is a brand I would like to explore more; what I have tried from the brand I have really liked, the Hourglass Veil Fluid foundation $60, Ambient lighting blush palette and the Ambient lighting palette. The stick foundation that came in my box was a little too dark (Golden Almond) but I made it work. The finish is beautiful, the coverage is full but not mask like, it blends very well with a brush or beauty blender sponge. I like that my skin still looks like skin and the stick is so quick and convenient. I would purchase this in the full size if I find the correct shade. This is a beautiful foundation.
Qhemet Biologics is a black owned natural hair brand that is sold at Sephora. Qhemet is a well known brand in the natural hair community and I have used several things from the line which I like but I have never tried the detangling Ghee. The ingredients are great cocoa butter, nettle leaf (conditions and softens), Horsetail (strengthens and adds slip) just to name a few. The product smells like cocoa butter (not my favorite scent) but I can live with it. I have not tried it on my hair but I have felt the texture of the product and I can tell it will seep into my hair and not just sit on top. I have high hopes for this product.
The Beauty Blender is my favorite makeup tool because it is so versatile! I use a full size beauty blender daily for foundation and powder. The Beauty Blender expands when wet (squeeze out excess water) use damp. The micro-minis are great for under eye concealer and setting powder under the eye. There are a lot of imitators that are less expensive but the texture, softness and reliability of the original Beauty Blender can’t be matched! Can you tell I love this tool!
Light Blue is described as a fresh, citrusy scent with notes of bluebell, white rose and amber. I can’t tell you about the “notes” but I agree with the description the scent is soft and light perfect for summer.
The Play! By Sephora box is well worth $10 in my opinion. I love that the box has items included based on my profile; for example, I have combination oily skin and my areas of concern are my pores and anti-aging. $10 well spent. http://www.sephora.com
