Over the next few months, my life is going to be busier than usual, which is crazy since my life is pretty full as is! I am taking some courses to enhance my professional life and as well as courses in videography, photography, and video editing. I am nervous and excited at the same time. The professional courses include preparing for an exam to get my license in my current field. The study materials aren’t exactly page turners and I find myself reading the material over and over and then taking mini quizzes on what I’ve read to help me retain the information. I plan to take the exam in the next 60 days. I am also taking some online refresher courses in Excel and PowerPoint; I know enough to get by but I want to become proficient.
What I am most excited about are the creative courses for obvious reasons lol. Michael gave me a DSLR camera, studio lights, and tripod so that I could learn photography and make videos more than 2 years ago. I made a few videos that never saw the light of day because I didn’t know what I was doing and I didn’t understand how to use my camera. I took a photography class that I purchased through Groupon that was pretty good but I needed more but the options were so expensive. I tried some tutorials on Youtube but they didn’t help much.
My goal was to launch my Blog and my YouTube channel at the same but I just couldn’t pull it off. It really would have been too much to learn two totally different platforms at the same time and make content for both. So I put the camera on the shelf literally, until I was comfortable with creating content on my blog and felt more proficient using WordPress. I have always been creative, I just suppressed my creativity, fearful of the outcome. I will be 52 years old in about a month and I want to challenge myself with being more creative and doing things that scare me!
I know I just shared my love for podcasts in a post last week but I came across another one that CHALLENGED ME. Woman Evolve with Sarah Jakes-Roberts. Sarah was on the Business Boutique podcast sharing her story and how each venture that she has undertaken scared her but she kept pressing because she knew God was calling her to do that next thing; she still gets scared and nervous even now after much success; she’s learned fear is reverence or respect for that thing God has called her to. The funny thing is before hearing the interview I had already decided I was going put all of my equipment to use and learn along the way. It doesn’t have to be perfect or just right. I just have to be ME! I am grateful to have such a supportive family, Michael and my children are my biggest cheerleaders they keep pushing me to keep going and to go to the next thing. I tell them you guys have to say those things because we are family but then I remember that we are all very honest (sometimes too honest) with one another which is a good thing but then there are times you just want to hear what feels good lol.
Our community on the blog has also been so encouraging as well; your comments, questions, sharing my blog with your friends and family. You guys just don’t know I still get so nervous right before I schedule the latest post. I will often take one last look before it’s published which so I may get up extra early just to make sure it’s okay before it goes live at 6 am. I want to put out good content that is useful and helpful but I also want to keep getting better to challenge myself and you all as well.
The photography and videography courses are on https://www.udemy.com I love this site. There are classes for everything imaginable and the prices are reasonable. I have taken a few blogger courses I learned a lot and the value was great!
How are you challenging yourself? What new things are you learning?
